A 4 year-old was lured away from a park to a wooded area by a 13 year-old who assaulted and strangled the young child to death in Steuben County, New York. Robie's killer was released on parole after serving a short sentence.

A 12 year-old girl is kidnapped from her home and killed in the small town of Petaluma, California

A 21 year-old is assaulted, shot, and stabbed to death over Teena's gender and sexuality in Nebraska. Teena's friend and her spouse were also killed for helping to hide Teena. 

The hate crime was made into a movie Boys Don't Cry starring Hilary Swank.
